Elections are one of the corner stones in the Danish democracy. In Denmark the following types of elections are held:
Municipal elections (Kommunalvalg)
Municipal elections are held every 4 years. The latest municipal election was on Novmber 17th 2009. Members of the city council are elected for the period from Januar 1st 2010 to December 31th 2013.
Regional elections (Regionsrådsvalg)
Regional elections are held every 4 years simultaneously with municipal elections. Last election was November 17th, 2009.
National elections (Folketingsvalg)
National elections for the Dansish parliament are held at least every 4 years. Last election was November 13th 2007.
European parliament elections (Europaparlamentsvalg)
Elections to the European parliament are held every 5 years. Last election was June 7th 2009.
National referendum (Folkeafstemning)
Referendums are held discretionally.
